Southern Maine Planning and Development Commission
SMPDC's Southern Maine
Climate Action Planning Cohort
The Southern Maine Planning and Development Commission (SMPDC) is leading the Climate Action Planning process for Biddeford, Kennebunk, Kennebunkport, and Kittery. The purpose of this project is to develop a unique, local Climate Action Plan (CAP) for each community.
This process uses a cohort model, where the communities work together to share resources, share knowledge, and coordinate their planning efforts.
What is a cohort?
A team, group, or community of people with shared interests and goals who progress through an experience together
Public engagement is integral to the CAP process. Community input will help to shape CAPs with broad support from residents, business owners, municipal staff, and elected officials. Templates, frameworks, and resources created through this project will be transferable to other Maine communities to inform their own climate action strategies and implementation plans.
This project is lead by SMPDC:
The Southern Maine Planning and Development Commission is a non-partisan, non-profit agency that cultivates thriving, sustainable communities and strengthens local governments by leading planning and economic development for 39 towns in Southern Maine.
